The Swedish test is introduced in three steps. Step two has a deadline. Step three has no date at all.

Three steps

In February 2026 the government decided that the tests would be introduced in three steps. Step one is the civics test, introduced in 2026. Step two covers reading and listening comprehension and is to be introduced by 1 October 2027 at the latest. Step three covers writing and speaking and has no published date.

Levels

The levels B1 and A2 appear in the government's proposal. They should be read as a proposal, not as a confirmed test format. UHR has published no format for the language test.

What you can do now

There is no reason to buy preparation for a test whose format does not exist. What can be prepared for today is the civics test, which already has both an official study material and a completed sitting. Medborgarklar covers that test only.

When UHR publishes the format of the language test we will update this page.
