The pass mark of the citizenship test

Status

No pass mark published

UHR has not published how many correct answers are required. We invent no threshold and give no prediction of whether you will pass.

What UHR has said

  • “The threshold for a pass is set afterwards, that is, after the test has been held.”
  • The August 2026 test was a trial test. It is the results of that test that form the basis of the analysis.
  • “The results are published in October. Information about the exact date will follow.”

What happened last time

  • The first test was held in August 2026 with a limited number of places, and no pass mark was published before the test day.
  • According to press reporting the test consisted of around 60 multiple-choice questions. UHR states that information about duration and number of questions for the next sitting will follow, so the figure describes the pilot and is not a fixed format.

What it means for you

  • Every percentage you see on commercial sites — “75 %”, “60 out of 60”, “at least 45 correct” — is a guess. None of them comes from UHR.
  • Because the threshold does not exist, nobody can say “you are ready”. The only thing measurable today is which of the exam’s thirteen areas you actually know and which you do not.
  • The sensible strategy is therefore to aim at knowing all thirteen areas, not at a number nobody has published.

Frequently asked questions

How many correct answers are needed to pass?

It has not been published. UHR states that the pass threshold is set afterwards, once the test has been held. The August 2026 test was a trial test and the results are published in October.

Why do other sites state a percentage?

Because a number sells better than “nobody knows”. The percentages do not come from UHR and there is no published decision to point to.
