Who does not have to take the citizenship test?

Not every applicant sits the test. Anyone who can already demonstrate the knowledge another way is not referred to it.
The general rule
The knowledge requirement applies to people aged 16 to 66. That means anyone under 16 or over 66 at the time of application is normally outside its scope.
Demonstrating the knowledge another way
The Migration Agency states that not all applicants have to take the test. Anyone who can already demonstrate their knowledge with approved grades or other acceptable qualifications does not need to take the corresponding test. Examples mentioned include a pass in Swedish for immigrants (SFI), course D, and grades from Swedish compulsory school, upper secondary school, municipal adult education or folk high school.
Who decides?
The Migration Agency assesses whether your documents are sufficient, and the Migration Agency sends the referral letter to those who must sit the test. You cannot register with UHR without such a letter.
If you are unsure
Gather your grades and certificates before applying and check them against the Migration Agency's current list of acceptable qualifications. If you are referred to the test anyway, you will have at least a few weeks before the sitting — that is the window in which a diagnostic and targeted practice make the biggest difference.
