What UHR has said

  • “Information about when the next sitting takes place will be announced on uhr.se during the autumn.” No month, no week and no locations are given.
  • “Registration for the citizenship test is closed and it is not possible to register.” UHR states that information about when registration opens for the next sitting will follow.
  • “It will only be possible to register for the test if you have received a letter from the Migration Agency.” The Migration Agency decides who sits the test.
  • “Information about the duration and the number of questions for the next sitting will follow.” The format of the next test is therefore not publicly fixed.
  • “The results are published in October. Information about the exact date will follow.” This concerns the results of the August 2026 sitting.
  • “Information about the registration fee will follow.” UHR has not published how the fee will be charged at future sittings.

What happened last time

  • UHR states that the first civics test was held in August 2026 and that the August test was a trial test. Press reporting gives the test day as Saturday 15 August 2026.
  • The number of places was limited. According to press reporting (Göteborgs-Posten), around 1,000 people were called to the first sitting, while an estimated 34,000 people are expected to need the test.
  • The test was written in Stockholm. The Migration Agency gives Stockholm as the location of the first sitting; no other towns have been published.
  • Press reporting, not confirmed on uhr.se: registration opened in early June 2026, closed on 2 July, and the places sold out. We have not found those dates on uhr.se, regeringen.se or migrationsverket.se and therefore mark them as unconfirmed.
  • The test was free of charge for participants. The fee in ordinance (2026:451) § 6 applies for the first time to citizenship tests conducted in 2027.
  • The test is in Swedish, written on paper, and consists of multiple-choice questions with one correct answer. According to UHR that also holds going forward.

What it means for you

  • You cannot register on your own initiative, however much you want to. Registration opens for you only once the Migration Agency has sent you a letter.
  • The time between the letter and the test day can be short. At the first sitting, registration closed on 2 July and the test was held on 15 August, a little over six weeks later (press reporting). If you wait for the letter to start reading, the wait becomes your study time.
  • For citizenship tests conducted during 2027 the fee is SEK 2,000 per sitting under ordinance (2026:451) § 6. It does not apply to tests during 2026. Stateless people who have been granted refugee status or a travel document by a Swedish authority are exempt.
  • There is no published pass mark. We therefore give no prediction of whether you will pass, and you should be sceptical of sites that do.
