Can you take the Swedish citizenship test in English?

No. UHR states that the citizenship test can only be taken in Swedish. There is no English version, and no service can give you one.
The short answer: no
UHR states that the citizenship test can only be taken in Swedish. The test is in Swedish, written on paper, and consists of multiple-choice questions with one correct answer. There is no English version to choose, and no private service — including us — can give you one.
We say it plainly, because it is one of the most searched questions and because a wrong answer here costs somebody a test day.
Why you can still prepare in English
The test assesses knowledge about Swedish society: how the Riksdag works, what the constitutional laws are called, who is responsible for healthcare. That knowledge can be learned in any language. It is only the answering that must happen in Swedish.
That is why all of Medborgarklar exists in both Swedish and English: you can read the explanation in English when the concept is the hard part, then practise the same question in Swedish so that the wording is familiar on the day. Switch language at the top right, at any time.
Practical advice if your Swedish is shaky
- Practise on the Swedish questions even if you understand the content better in English. It is the Swedish wording you meet in the exam.
- Learn the terms in Swedish: riksdag, regering, kommun, region, grundlag, kollektivavtal, offentlighetsprincipen. The questions use the words, not the explanations.
- Sverige i fokus also exists as audio files on uhr.se, which helps if reading Swedish is heavier going than listening.
The language test is a different thing
In addition to the civics test, a test in Swedish is being introduced. The government has decided that the second step, reading and listening comprehension, is to be held by 1 October 2027 at the latest. The format has not been published. Adaptations
UHR states that adaptations of the test may be given to someone who needs them because of a disability or other personal circumstances. That is not a translation of the test, and the conditions are decided by UHR.
