Sverige i fokus — study material for the citizenship test was produced by UHR together with the National Agency for Education. It is free, downloaded from uhr.se, and exists as audio, one track per chapter. UHR states that the test is based on this material, and nothing else.
Below are all thirteen chapters, what they cover and what usually costs points. Reasoning is not enough in the chapters that contain exact figures — those have to be read.
1. The country of Sweden
Geography, provinces, climate, natural resources, the right of public access and climate policy. Costs points: exact facts about size, regions and natural resources.
2. Sweden's democratic system
What democracy means, free elections, freedom of expression, threats to democracy, segregation and integration. Costs points: the difference between direct and representative democracy.
3. How Sweden is governed
State, regions and municipalities, the Riksdag, the government and public agencies, and who is responsible for what. Costs points: 349 members of the Riksdag, 290 municipalities, 21 regions — and which level runs schools, healthcare and the police.
4. Elections and political parties
The right to vote, the electoral system, elections every four years, referendums and the role of parties. Costs points: the four per cent threshold and who may vote in which election.
5. Law and justice
The four constitutional laws, the justice system, police, prosecutors, courts and the trial. Costs points: the names of the constitutional laws and the difference between district court, court of appeal and the Supreme Court.
6. The role of the media
Free media, public access to official documents, the freedom to communicate information, public service and source criticism. Costs points: what public access to documents actually entitles you to.
7. Human rights
The UN declaration, the European Convention, the Discrimination Act, gender equality, children's rights and the national minorities. Costs points: the five national minorities and the grounds of discrimination.
8. Labour market and personal finances
Public and private sector, unions and employers, collective agreements, forms of employment, tax, unemployment insurance and personal finance. Costs points: what a collective agreement is and who pays what.
9. The welfare society
Taxes, social insurance, healthcare, schools, elderly care and the division of responsibility between state, regions and municipalities. Costs points: which level is responsible for which welfare service.
10. Sweden's modern history
From farming country to industrial and welfare state, emigration and immigration, the world wars and the folkhem. Costs points: the dates.
11. Sweden and the world
The Nordics, the EU, the UN, the Council of Europe, NATO, defence and security. Costs points: which organisations Sweden belongs to and what EU membership means in practice.
12. A secular state and a multi-religious country
Freedom of religion, the state's relationship to religion, the Church of Sweden and other communities in Sweden. Costs points: what a secular state means legally.
13. Traditions and holidays
The festivals of the year, their origins and how they are celebrated. Costs points: which festivals are public holidays.
